The way to Edge a Yard

Edging your lawn produces a clean look that sets off the beauty of both your turf and your garden beds. Using a sharp edging instrument, such as a spade, half-moon edger or walking edger with a circular blade, which makes this job easier. Adding a physical obstacle can lower the time spent weeding during growing season, but it’s not an important measure. Refresh your edging once every season to keep your lawn sharp and neat.

Establish the border of your lawn with an edging tool. Make an incision 2 inches deep all of the way round the periphery of this lawn.

Establish the cut you created with a spade. Make this cut between 4 and 6 inches deep.

Remove the turf between the lawn and the backyard bed.

Remove excess dirt in the bed or even at the lawn, and toss staying turf and roots from the compost pile.

Install steel, vinyl, aluminum, brick or stone edging between the lawn and the bed. Insert the steel, plastic or aluminum edging so that its top is flush with the lawn. Lay bricks or stones directly on the ground on the bed side of their border, leveling their tops for a neat finish.

Mulch the garden bed to more clearly define the yard’s edge.
