It requires a little thought to get the right rug for your dining area. It should be wide and long enough on all sides to permit for seats to slide in and out, and you need to watch out for different parts of furniture that you place in the area.
For a standard dining table (42″ x 64″) that seats 4-6, a rug which measures 8′ x 10′ is usually a fantastic place to start. But there other factors which impact the size and design rug that you decide to utilize.
I recently researched area rugs to get a customers’ dining area. It was a tricky situation because the area was narrow. I needed to picture the rug dimensions, so that I used painter’s tape to map out how big it could be on the floor, then shopped for a similar sized rug. A fantastic rule of thumb in a dining area is to maintain 18 inches of flooring found around the perimeter of the room to showcase your carpeting and make your room feel larger.
