Bathed in Colour: When to Use Blue from the Toilet

Blue hues that remind us of the sea and sky can offer instant relief from life’s numerous stressors, which makes them perfect for a relaxing vibe on your toilet. If you favor lighter colors but do not necessarily wish to be surrounded by baby blue, then I suggest choosing a shade which has a bit of gray or green inside.

To get a more dramatic effect, decide on a darker royal or navy blue — just be aware that darker blues can create a space look smaller and cavelike, which means you will want plenty of light in the space to offset this, or use them sparingly as a accent color. Pairing blue with colors of white or gray will give you a cool, contemporary look. To get a warmer feel, try incorporating sandy beige and tan.

Here are a few of my favorite blue hues for baths, along with 11 eye catching blue baths to inspire one.

I am partial to frosty light grayish blues in addition to bold turquoises, however there are many beautiful blues in between to pick from.

What a fantastic use of colour and tile. I think that it was smart to use the two different tiles on the walls to keep the walls from appearing monolithic and thick. The fearless blue walls are nicely lightened and heightened by the skylight ceiling.

Perhaps you aren’t eager to adorn your bathroom walls with glowing blue tile. Take inspiration from the striking minimalist toilet; proceed with a neutral gray wall and floor tile, and inject color via a sky-blue vanity. This is a good palette for a toilet that doesn’t receive much all-natural light. The white walls help brighten the space.

Here is another nice mixture of cool white and blue with hot wood. This particular wood has a lot of orange in it, and since blue and orange are complementary colours (reverse each other on the colour wheel), they offer the maximum contrast to one another. You receive a massive impact using a very limited color palette.

Blue tile need not be restricted to bathroom walls. I love this fun flooring, with its mixture of watery blues, greens and white. The enchanting painted vanity cabinet picks up a blue color in the ground, but because the ceiling and walls are painted white, the effect is soft and soothing despite the numerous colours.

Another bath featuring blue painted cabinetry. If your cabinets are in good shape but you are not a lover of the current color, consider painting them or having them painted. Then decide on a darker or lighter variant of the cabinet color for the walls or floors material, to rip it out.

I love this magnificent and funky bathroom, using its denim blue shiplap siding walls and trough sink. The nice thing about using paint, rather than tiles, to inject colour in your toilet is the fact that it’s much easier and affordable to generate a hue change later on.

A stunning bathtub such as this deserves to be partnered with a wow colour on the wall behind it to allow it to really stand out. Between the natural sculptural form of the bathtub and the fearless wall color, you truly don’t need a great deal of other decorative accessories.

If you are drawn to darker or cooler blue hues but are thinking about utilizing them in your main toilet, think about using them in a half bath or guest bathroom rather. These spaces are normally used less frequently and for limited amounts of time, so they are the perfect spaces in which to go bold with colour.

The dark inky blue on the walls in this elegant toilet adds such drama.

This glamorous toilet decked out from soothing light gray and tropical blue is the best space for taking a long soak with a good book and a glass of wine.

Don’t neglect the ceiling when selecting paint colours for a toilet, especially if you are a lover of taking baths — you deserve a nice opinion above in the bathtub. Placing in a skylight might not be an option, but you could paint your bathroom ceiling an uplifting sky blue or a dark, dramatic navy blue, like in this stunning contemporary toilet.
